Viola Musician
& Educator
Yiannis Romanos is a Viola teacher at the Hellenic American Educational Foundation-College of Athens and was the co-principal musician of the National Symphony Orchestra of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) until 2023.
He began studying violin at the age of six at the Athens Conservatory in the class of Tatsis Apostolidis and continued with viola in the class of Marivita Grammatikaki.
At the age of 21 he entered the Hochschule für Musik Köln under the supervision of Professor Werner Dickel, from which he graduated in 2010.
In 2011 he studied at the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Athens.
He has attended solo viola seminars alongside Bernard Oll, Danusha Waskiewicz and Yuval Gotlibovitch.
He participated in festivals such as the Mani-Sonnenlink Music Festival, Porto Heli Music Festival and the International Cycladic Classical Music Festival in Syros.
During his studies in Germany he became a member of the Corium Orchestra Münster, and when he returned to Greece he collaborated for several years with the National Opera and Camerata Orchestra of Athens.
He has collaborated with famous conductors and artists such as R. Mutti, H. Carrera, A Bocceli, V. Karagianni, M. Plasson, E. Karaindrou, D. Papadimitriou.
He has participated in a number of performances at the Onassis Foundation with Dante's "Divine Comedy", with performances in Greece and France.
He has also made recordings for the National Theatre for the performance "Tonight we improvise".
He has recorded works for solo viola for the Greek Radio and has performed as a soloist with the Contemporary Music Orchestra of the Greek Radio (ERT).
In 2014 he created the International String and Piano Seminar "Zante Music Masterclass" in collaboration with music teachers from Germany and the Youth Orchestra "Freiburg-Zakynthos Orchester Union".
In 2018 he started working with the Hellenic Cancer Society under the "Dorella" program which he created - Music Composition and Creation for children and adolescents with Neoplasms - for which he was awarded by the Hellenic Cancer Society.
The program was held in the guesthouse of "Floga" (Association of Parents of Children with Neoplastic Diseases) and in the "Elpida Children's Hospital - Agia Sophia."
The program was presented on National Television by the journalist Yiannis Darras in a program dedicated to it, entitled “+People”.
The musical creations of the children who participated in the "Dorella" program were recorded by the ERT Music Ensembles and a CD was published in collaboration with the Hellenic Cancer Society in 2023.
In 2022, in collaboration with the pianist Dionysis Malouchos, they released a CD of works by Dimitris Minakakis entitled "Manifestations of Love". The works are inspired by the cycle of poems by Giorgos Mastrogiannopoulos, "Cracks" and "Wasted Sunsets". They were recorded by Vangelis Sapounas at Subway studio by Subways Music.
He is currently studying at the European University of Cyprus, for a postgraduate degree in “Child and Adolescent Mental Health”.
